Reclaiming Public Education
We are parents, grandparents, teachers, administrators and concerned citizens for traditional public education. We are opposed to the new social emotional learning that engages the students on a subjective emotional level, rather than on an objective intellectual level. The whole purpose of which is to transform the students mind and thinking -- rather than infusing them with facts, understanding and academic knowledge. Because, the progressive utopian vision of the future trumps the reliability of the past, which we have all come to reply upon in forming societal values and cultural morés. Under the guise of cleverly titled catch phrases, such as 21st Century Learning, rigor. perseverance and deeper thinking, students are now guinea pigs in a vast dangerous social experiment that replaces performance with competencies, with testing rather than understanding. Schooling is no longer about teaching children but rather manipulating their internal thought processes, separating his/her moral, family and cultural values from those of the parent. What becomes COMMON are the STANDARDS of the STATE and not the INDIVIDUAL or the FAMILY or even the sound judgments of ancestors (such as the Pilgrims or Founding Fathers).
